I just wondered whether, as a rule, you believe National Statistics figures published on such things as the national accounts, unemployment, GDP, population, benefit claimants, benefit fraud, etc?

And if you don't, is it any particular figure or the whole lot of them? And also, who is doing the massaging of the figures and to what end?

Do you think anyone produces better (or at least more honest) figures?

[As a disclaimer, whilst I'm not a statistician, I've worked on the publication of some of these figures]

Nice!

Yes, there's more snow in Cambs than in Northern Bavaria. *grump* And judging by my luck of previous years, it will all be gone by the 24th...

If I have to enter a fucking Captcha every time I reply to an email, I'm going to scrap you.
Ah, it seems that's only the case when the original mail is in HTML format. Good.

The biggest steampunk mod ever, a whole house. (HT to [info]blue_cat)

I especially like that appliances like the cooker/oven are just facades for modern tech.

Thinking about getting a paid account?

  • Dec. 19th, 2009 at 11:14 PM
To make your decision easier, I have 10 vouchers for a $10 discount. If you want one, comment below (screened). First come, first served.

ETA: Booh, this only works if you currently don't have one. The deadline is the 15th of January. If your account runs out before then, you're in luck but I assume you will need to let it lapse.

[info]shannachie just linked to this wonderful piece. It's a transcription of a radio programme (mp3 download), all episodes of which you can download here.
I'm going to download all of them and put them on my mp3 player for my holiday. :D

ETA: In a similar vein, the BBQ season has started. (mp3 download)

Now that's some serious live knob twiddling

To those who remember Full Tilt, do you know which version of Diskoteka Rex used to play?
